Shotts BA won the Cup in 1958, having beaten Meadow in a semi-final at Firhill, then beating Pumpherston at Hampden in front of 35,211 fans. In 1989, they lost a semi-final 1-0 at Rugby park to eventual winners Cumnock. In 2000, Shotts lost 0-3 on penalties to Johnstone Burgh after a 2-2 draw at Love Street.
Auchinleck Talbot are after a new record, lifting the trophy in NINE of their 10 finals ... from 16 semi-final shots, of which (amazingly) only six were at Rugby park ... venue for FIVE trophy successes. For the record, Talbot won semis in 1949, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1991, 1992, 2002, 2006, 2009 and 2011, losing only one final to Linlithgow 0-1 at Firhill in 2002. They lost semis in 1924 and 1984 (Baillieston), 1983 (Bo`ness), 1993 and 1996 (Tayport), 2001 (Renfrew). Sadly, wherever the final is held in 2012, it won`t get anywhere near the 68384 punters who saw Talbot beat Petershill 3-2 at Hampden for their first trophy. One tenth of that is now the norm ... |
